New School Year Starts

DS will be starting school full time next week. Hard to believe, the summer went by so fast. What will I be doing? Reviewing all the wonderful teacher/design team applications I have received. If you are interested in teaching there is still time to apply. Check out our website for all of the details.

I will also be testing the classroom software and preparing to introduce our teachers the 1st week of September. In in the coming weeks there will be teacher introductions on our blog and website. I am so excited to get started. January seems so far away, but I know it will be here before I know it.

Also wanted to remind everyone that we will be hosting a free week of classes for those individuals on our mailing list. This is a great way to meet all of our teachers.

Free Week of Classes.

Until next week you will find me soaking up some summer sun with my family, hope you can do the same.

A Big Thank You

I need to give a big thank you to Angi Pedersen who owns scrapbookmarketing.com for helping me with our marketing plan and writing a press release for My Creative Classroom. Angie is great to work with and definately knows her stuff.

I used the information we talked about and create a narrated slide presentation. Hopefully it will give a little better idea of who we are and what our vision is. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

My Classes

Will I be teaching classes next spring? The answer is yes. In addition to providing ongoing update training to our teachers I will also be teaching my own classes. The classes I will be offering are not your typical craft classes, I will be focusing on the topic of creativity. In fact I probably should add that to the list of class topics. I will be using creativity to explore personal growth and development.

My Personal Mission Statement-is the first of several personal growth classes I plan on offering this spring. I have facilitated mission statement classes in the past, but never through creative means. Students will write their personal mission statement using the creative method of there choice. Those methods could include creative writing, artistic journaling, collage, mixed media or scrapbooking. Whatever your heart desires. Interested? An Introduction

During the past six months as I have worked to launch My Creative Classroom, I have often thought that many of you might wonder who I am. Why should I teach for or take classes at My Creative Classroom? Since my name is not a familiar one, I thought is was time to introduce myself. My name is Jeri Parks, I am a trainer, crafter, artist and business owner.

Like so many women before me my career can be divided into two sections; pre-children and post-children. Prior to the birth of my son I spent 15 years in the training and development industry. My last position was as a training manager for a larger university in Texas. In addition, I also owned my own training and consulting business. I love training/teaching, the first time I stood in front of a class it was coming home to a place I had never been before.

After the birth of my son I made a huge career change to meet the changing needs of my family. For the past four years I turned to my second love, crafts, as a source of income. I can't remember time when I was not involved with some type of craft. As a small child and young adult I learned and enjoyed needle crafts. Later I moved on to wood crafts and home decor. Ten years ago I discovered scrapbooking, which lead me to paper crafting, altered arts, mixed media and collage. I have been selling on Ebay under the name Moments2Memories ever since. I dearly love my customers and hope to continue selling in the future.

As my son started to need me less and less, I began to look for options to grow my business. During an unexpected relocation I had a light bulb moment, well it was more like a lightening strike. :) It was time to combine my two passions, training and crafts, but on my terms.

Local craft and art stores do a great job teaching the basics and community colleges offer some advanced courses, but I wanted more. I wanted basic, intermediate and advanced courses, facilitated by talented teachers, that I could take in my own home, where I would have access to my own craft supplies. I wanted courses the pushed me, that were interactive and used creativity in unique ways. I wanted others to come on the journey with me. I wanted teachers to be able to offer courses without having to travel and I wanted them to retain a majority of the revenue they brought in. I wanted business owners to be able to offer additional services to their customers and manufacturers to be able to education the public about their products.

And so My Creative Classroom was born. Hopefully now you know I have used a lifetime of experience, training and education to create My Creative Classroom. I hope you spend some time visiting our website, take a few courses and maybe even teach for us. It is our mission to create the best online learning experience possible.
